Description
Colorized photo from 1912
Original Title: Inspecting cartridge cases
Location: Washington DC
I liked the guy looking over to the right, the one in the green shirt and long mustache. It makes you wonder what was more interesting than simply looking at the camera. On the other hand he may have a lazy eye, but I wanted the theme so I had him look in that direction.
There wasn't a lot to go on in this image, there was no name of the factory, or a location other than the state. All I knew was that they were inspecting ammunition of some kind. They had a date range from 1909-1920. I derived at 1912, because of the flags, they have 48 stars, they started that in 1912, before that it was 46.
It could be a later date, but there is both electricity (just sort of randomly placed in the room, and active gas lines (there are hoses attached). So it was probably early.
I don't know what that other flag is, it appears to have a set of stripes on some of them, but I couldn't find any country it might have represented. I wonder now if it was a naval flag, well anyway, I assumed it was their own flag, and made it purple. Why purple? I like purple.
