During the Civil War, pharmacists played a crucial role in providing essential medical care and medications to soldiers on both sides. They were responsible for compounding and dispensing medications, managing supplies, and advising on dosage and usage. Pharmacists also worked closely with physicians and surgeons in field hospitals and makeshift medical facilities, helping to treat wounds, manage infections, and alleviate pain. Despite the challenges and shortages faced during wartime, pharmacists were vital in providing critical healthcare support to soldiers, contributing to the overall care and treatment of wounded and sick individuals during this tumultuous period in American history.
