Description
Colorized photo from 1941
Original Title: Bowling alley on South-side of Chicago
Photographer: Russell Lee
Location: Bronzeville area, Chicago, IL
I would have liked to known what the photographer was thinking when he set up this shot. I suppose some people look like this when they roll a ball, but for everyone to just be standing there on one leg, waiting for the center guy to toss one in, just to make it look like there is action, is just a bit silly looking. And he set up quite a few flashes to get it.
I'd be curious why they need all those lockers, the bench is in front of it, and they aren't wearing a lot. I suppose in the winter it might be used but just seems out of place, considering one is blocking a door.
There was no indication where this was, what street it was etc. Basically the photographer asked them to pose in a silly way, then didn't bother to take down notes.
