In 1882 Zurich, the city buzzed with the hum of electric innovation. While the world marveled at Edison's achievements, Switzerland had its own electrifying developments. Zurich's streets were soon lit by arc lamps, casting a ghostly white light over cobblestones where gaslight once flickered. Engineers and scientists in the city experimented with strange new devices, like electric motors and telegraphs, which seemed to defy nature's laws. Public demonstrations showcased marvels such as early electric trams, filling the air with the curious buzz of unseen energy. To many, these inventions felt like something out of science fiction's blend of Swiss precision and the thrilling uncertainty of a new electrical age.
And in this classroom, this is where students learned about all the weird wonderful stuff that made all that happen.
