Steam Locomotive No. 40 is a historic 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type steam engine built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works on December 2, 1925. Originally, it was constructed for the Lancaster and Chester Railroad in South Carolina, where it was used for freight service. Over the years, No. 40 changed hands, serving various railroads before finding its current home at the New Hope Railroad in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
Today, No. 40 is fully operational and serves as a key attraction on the New Hope Railroad, pulling excursion trains through the scenic landscapes of Bucks County. It offers passengers a nostalgic experience, recreating the golden age of steam rail travel. Regularly used for themed rides, holiday events, and scenic journeys, No. 40 continues to be a living piece of railroad history, delighting train enthusiasts and visitors alike.
