At one point in the life of sewing machines before motor driven, before foot powered, even before horse powered, there was the hand powered machine. Somehow they spun one end while guiding cloth with their other two hands. Through evolution and modern technology people lost the use of their 3 hands, and as current as today, we now use 2.
