Description
Q is for Qwerty
Qwerty was invented in 1873, to make typing go faster and to prevent jamming, it was made for the Type Writer company (it was a name brand back then). Keys were spread further apart and arranged in a diagonally from each other to prevent the arms that hold the keys, from hitting each other.
The original Qwerty keyboard had a dot where the R is. Its believed that the company making these moved the R to that spot, so that salesmen could type out TYPE WRITER (the name brand), using only the top row of letters, so they can impress their customers of how fast the device was.
Typing on a typewriter in those days meant you had some very strong hands. You really had to punch down on the keys to get them to work and to apply ink to paper. Luckily with modern advances we were able to convert the typewriter into a device that is much easier to use.
