An interesting symbiosis, where evolution takes one big step forward and one step sideways. Teamwork is used for survival, the large spider, controls the web. Unlike organic spiders who utilizes a sticky substance to trap insects, these particular creatures uses a system of gears.
With a small twist, the gears can wrap around the victim, prevent movement. However the gear like web, has to have tension, so the large one has to stay in place. These webs are often called cogwebs for their gear like appearance.
The smaller drones, have a flower like appearance, and are designed to attract the prey. Once an item is caught, they go to work. They have two primary jobs:
1. Drill large holes in the sides of the living creature.
2. Drain it of it's lubricants and liquids.
Once the prey is immobilized, the larger spider now can devour the remains.
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...

Fabulous must be the word. I have only just begun to explore your terrific work, Mike. This makes me think of Lewis Carroll - maybe you should be illustrating a modern day version of Alice in Wonderland - or even writing one, with the illustrations too, of course.
