Original title: Looking up Woodward Ave
Location: 611 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI
This is Woodward Ave as seen in 1917, a location that has changed significantly over the years. In fact if people back then time traveled to now, the only thing they would recognize is the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. And even then that was moved from this spot to its current spot, complete with a new fountain.
On the left is the Majestic Building, built in 1896, it was designed to be a department store, but ended up being an office building, it was demolished back in 1962. Some of the other buildings like the Kern's building, and Hudson's stuck around until the early 1990's but eventually they were leveled as well.
This street was the first street to be paved in America. Made of concrete, they poured a mile of it back in 1909.
