This is Montgomery Street in San Francisco, California, as seen in 1934. At this time it was an Italian neighborhood.
The next block up was a building known as the Montgomery Block, also known as he Monkey block and Halleck's folly. It was built in 1853, erected by Henry Wager Halleck, and was built on a raft of redwood logs. It was designed as both fire proof and earthquake proof, which was proven as there was an earthquake in 1906 and the building survived.
It was also known as Monkey Block as it housed well known lawyers, financiers, writers, actors and artists. It also hosted many illustrious visitors, among them Jack London, George Sterling, Lola Montez, Lotta Crabtree, Gelett Burgess (and 'Les Jeunes'), Maynard Dixon, Frank Norris, Ambrose Bierce, Bret Harte, the Booths, and Mark Twain.

About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like.
