This is a small town store in the middle of Sprott, Al, and I mean right in the middle, if you looked it up, its right under the pin. The store still exists today actually, though its closed. In its day it served as a community center, gas station, post office, and I presume a general store.
This is the Crossroads store, and I believe this may be the entire town on this porch. It opened in 1881, closed in 1993, it had a very good life. How its even still standing is beyond a miracle. Even in this image its quite rotted. The bricks are just sort of stacked up, I see shims everywhere, the porch is rotted out.
The gas pump is actually hanging off the edge, and people are standing on this wood near that pump, smoking. And yet it survived. The building changed over the years, its now white, the porch is gone, and the door is at street level. The second floor (which is actually really narrow, just a window deep), is also gone. The store is closed and I assume empty and abandoned, but its there still. Despite not having a real address, its easy to find. Just zoom in under the pin in google.
This image was taken during the great depression, which is probably why its in poor shape. The people are in ripped clothes, and a few people have shoes that are in such poor condition you can see their toes!
