Artist's Description

Colorized photo from 1915
Original Title: Bureau of Standards, Instrument shop
Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland

There were a few evident problems with this image. While the contrast and tones looked pretty nice, it had a lot of physical defects. The corners were torn off, and there was a hole punched by the guy on the upper left. There were little hairs all over the place, confetti like dots in other places, and the right corner had a dark mass in that corner.

I have no idea what year this is. The gave a range of 1909-1920, and they opened in 1901. The bulbs are rounded, people are still wearing those stiff collars. While I did find the drill press (its a Camelback drill press), there was no year. So I split the difference and made it 1915.

What I liked most about this shop is - there were no belts coming off the ceiling. They all had their own motor, while they still had belts, it opened the whole workshop up.

About Mike Savad

Mike Savad

My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
