Artist's Description
Colorized photo from 1919
Original Title: Lapping precision gage blocks
Location: Washington DC (probably)
This is the Bureau of standards, a place where they set the stanardards of all measurements. These people are making gage blocks, a universal device used to measure the thickness of things. So you'll always know you have a precise length or thickness.
These machines are currently lapping them, bringing them to exact nominal length within 0.000005 inches. The gaging surfaces are also plane and parallel within this amount.
These drill press like machines are made by JE Snyder and Son, but I don't know the model number. I did find some drill presses from the company, one was gray, the other was a weird looking green yellow combo. I just went with my default machine color, a sort of green turquoise.
About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
