Over the centuries, glasses have evolved. Glass grinding methods improved as eyeglasses spread across Europe and Asia. By the 17th and 18th century, they were able to correct various vision problems.
Prior to the 1870's, most eyeglasses were were held in place by pinching the nose (such as the Pince-Nez) or using ribbons or cords. They invented hinged temple arms, which revolutionised eyeglass design. It allowed for greater comfort and stability.
