In a close knit community, a barbershop became more than just a place to get a trim and a shave, it became beacon of community and camaraderie, even during segregation. Over time, the Black community would come together and talk about the latest news and other issues while getting neatened up. Barbers probably were the go to place to learn about what's happening in the area, because they aren't just cutting hair, they listen to everyone and learn the latest news quickly.
