Description
Colorized photo from 1915
Original Title: Mischief makers (by Harry Whittier)
Location: Sewing box
Harry Whittier made a series of images using cats and dogs in human scenes. He said that kittens are the easist to pose and looked good in human clothes. He used to sell these as postcards for kids. This was before the days of the "cat image".
In this scene I think they scanned a print, the white are rather blown out. It was tricky getting some of the thread midtones in. I left the background black because it just looked better that way. It wasn't till the end did I figure out that it was a sewing box, I seemed to have lost so detail inside when I cleaning things up..oops. But you can still tell it's a box more or less. I was able to find this exact cat online, it's this color with those color eyes, which I'm glad I did find because as a midtone, the eyes were too dark to be yellow.
