Description
Colorized photo from 1896-1906 (unknown exactly when)
Original Title: A family from the consulate, Chinatown, San Francisco
Location: Chinatown, San Francisco
The original looked like it was in a snow storm, there was a lot of noise and white dots in it. It took a while to clean then sharpen everything.
I really liked this scene, a little boy with a balloon, I think its a part of a series. It's easier to see it in color naturally, but they really aren't in a good part of town. They kind of stick out and people all have their eyes on them. The two in the middle look upper class to me, so I gave them bright colors, they look like silk. Everything else was down played.
The red ones were the next part of the story and were designed to be seen second. All the other colors are muted a little to get the eyes on those two. Color wise i wasn't sure what to do. There wasn't a lot of info about proper colors, so I went with what I thought it would look like, and combine that with what I know about Chinese food, and chose colors based on that.
