Description
Colorized photo from 1908, July
Original title: Smallest news & Post card stand
Location: 103 Royal St, New Orleans, LA
Things were stranger back then, slipped in between locations is this compact little newsstand. Just enough place to stand there.
There wasn't much to editing this, a tighter crop and a tweak in perspective was all that was needed.
Finding the magazines was just has hard as the last time I tried, finding about half of them. Many of them I guessed at, basing it off magazines from the month before or after. The post cards, I believe were all made by Detroit Publishing (which also took this photo, and turned it into a postcard as well). I did a basic job coloring them, as they did with their own stock, using solid colors with little shading.
Some of that fruit remains unidentified. I think that pile nearest him are oranges, the wrapped ones might be pears. Banana's were a real treat in the day and very expensive to buy.
There was a globe hanging there, I assume it was a shade of some kind. Beige would have been boring, so I decided to use green because the cafe is called The Jewel Cafe, and it seems to work for me. I lit the other lights because I could.
