Original Title: Jacques Cartier Square

Location: 404 Pl. Jacques-Cartier
This is Jacques Cartier Square, named in 1847 after the explorer who claimed Canada for France in 1535. The square is a part of Old Montreal which today is an historic neighborhood. That statue in the distance is Nelson's column which was erected in 1809.
Back in the early days, this area was used as a trading post, where local farmers could sell their wares to others. A busy place, filled with barrels and burlap sacks. Local stores align the streets on the sides when the wagons weren't in town, so even when they weren't selling produce there was something to buy. There is a large bottle of some kind in the background on the left.
The image is so alive, you can almost smell the dust in the air.
