Description
Colorized photo from 1915
Original Title: Broadway at the United States Hotel
Location: 366 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY
This block presently has that one hotel on the left and nothing else. I tried in vain to find accurate colors for the buildings across the street, but couldn't find any. I chose advertising colors, something that implies... come to me and buy in my store. I wanted colorful, but realistic at the same time. Didn't want to over do it.
The image: Normally an image like this has a lot of range, but not this one. Range is where I can extract data from the shadow and highlight, but the combination of it being in shadow, and that bright dust at the end of the block, it was hard to get the details I wanted.
The colors: The car in the center is a 1910 Tin Lizzie, I found a near identical match online. The hotel, I'm certain is tan and brown. The railing and the balustrade I wasn't sure. Some of them looked white, others looked darker. I'm thinking it had a red white and blue theme. But went for a more muted look. Because the dark ones might be shadows, and red white and blue would simply look stupid.
