This was a confusing train, because the info seems to be mixed together with another locomotive made a little later by the same designer, but pulling the same train. So my info might be mixed a little bit, its hard to tell. They say this train is famous, and yet it was hard finding actual info on it, and not another reference to the image itself. Even the year of this image ranges from 1936 or 1939. Some say it was in service, others said it was at an exhibition. There are images that mention LaSalle Station, and others say central, but because I can't find structures that match this at LaSalle, its probably the latter.
That said, there is a colorized image that made the train blue. But it wasn't ever blue. According to an actual photo of one, and a whole bunch of train sets, it came in different shades of gray. One had a gun metal look, another more of a polished aluminum look. One description said that it had two shades of gray with blue stripes, but it might have been for another engine.
So because it wasn't blue, but one had a bluish tinge, I went with that. Using a dark gray on the sides, a bluish gun metal in the middle area, and an aluminum look down the center. But for fun I added a blue bumper area and a little bit more on the bumper stripe area. There was at least one version that had red wheels and a red stripe on the tender area. But most had black wheels. So its possible that my combo might have existed and if it didn't, it should have.
One of the cooler things about this locomotive, the wheels light up. I tried mimicking it, but it looked stupid, so I left it off, I assume that it would have been on at night anyway.
I shaded this so it had a retro/deco look. I wanted to push the engine more than anything else. It's an interesting vehicle though, it looks like Batman should be the engineer. Almost like those panels slide down in place as an armor. And despite how future like it is, its still a steam engine, even though it does look like it should be rocket powered.
