This scene was both too bright and too dark at the same time. Details washed in the background and hiding shadows in the front. They used a really long exposure, you can see a number of ghosts everywhere. I started coloring the girl on the left but it looked weird and removed it at the end.
I wasn't sure if the dark bulbs were red, or if it was some other color.
I made the 1915 version of this image, and the colors were darker. I'm certain they remodeled the place and changed a lot.
Those lamps were so ugly.
And the lamps were everywhere, in the ceiling, in the rafters, on every level. All the stores changed since 1915, the only survivors were Hexters linens, and that place with the ramp. It was the only landmark I could use to tell me where this was shot. It was interesting because even the dentists were gone by 1915.
Today this building exists but its a hotel now, the lower section is open for parties.
