Description
Colorized photo from 1906
Original Title: Main Street north from Twelfth
Photographer: Detroit Publishing
Location: 1111 Main St, Kansas City, Missouri
The original was destroyed around the edges, I cropped it off before showing the side by side. You can still see some of the decay that I cloned out. The picture is smaller as a result, but we aren't missing much.
There were a lot of postcards of this area, but each one had a different color for the buildings. Knowing that many of these buildings were made in the 1870's or so, I gave them a peppermint stripe bond where needed, and left them on the red or brown side.
I already made the scene down the block (The Junction), and Petticoat lane on the right, and just matched the colors I used in those.
This street, looks nothing like it does now. All the buildings are gone, the streetcar was removed, then replaced using the outer road for the track layout. Today this location is full of parking garages and large glass brick shaped buildings.
