Hand colored photo from 1900 Original title: Interior of butcher shop of Henry J Ridings Photographer: Unknown Location: 197 S. Canal St, Chicago. IL
One has to wonder what the meat is like when it hangs freely on a wall and not in a cold case of some kind. I suppose there is some kind of secret of the meats that I'll never know about, where its ok to do it like that.
This is the butcher shop of Henry J Ridings, he was a butcher as you can clearly see, loved hanging heavy meat high up along the ceiling where the flies can't get to it. He had interesting taste with decor, the wood carvings really bring out the meat grain.
I'm not sure what those stool like things are, they look might uncomfortable as a chair, and not wide enough for a basket.
